ASSIMILATION 289 (A FEATURE) INT. A TAXI - DAY Winter of 1992. The TAXI is about to pull over by the Long-Distance Bus Station of Huhhot, Inner Mongolia, China. Busy traffic with noise makes the car slow down. Two passengers inside start to bundle up: RUIMING, a handsome Chinese young man in his mid-twenties with long hair, and his British wife, SOPHIA, a white woman, age twenty-two. SOPHIA (to Ruiming) Don’t forget to ask for a receipt. RUIMING Are you sure? What do we need that for? We have no one to ask a reimbursement of. SOPHIA Well, I’d like to make a record of the trip from the very beginning. RUIMING Okay then. (to the driver) Shifu, may I have a receipt? TAXI DRIVER (V.O.) Of course.
