A RED MADRASA SCHOOL UNDER MAO 3 (A FEATURE SCREENPLAY) EXT. A BIG RESIDENTIAL BUILDING OF THREE LEVELS - MORNING It’s a misty winter in the late 1960s. At a residential compound of a university in Xi’an, China, every window is lit up. INT. A ROOM - MORNING In a messy home, a MOM of two busily packs. HONG (11) helps his mother. RUIMING (6) looks sleepy and confused. They pack for a long journey. RUIMING Mom, where are we going? MOM We have to hide in the countryside. RUIMING Why are we hiding? MOM Soviets are going to bomb us. RUIMING Who are the Soviets? Why are they bombing us? MOM Because our thoughts are different from theirs. RUIMING What are thoughts?
